Groupon is a unique site offering a new deal every day. For example, a local spa may offer $60 worth of services for only $25. In order to get in on the deal, you must buy the Groupon before the end of the day AND... the deal is only activated when a minimum number of people agree to buy. (Thus, we get bulk buying power and the retailer gets new customers :) You can sign up to receive the daily deals via email or just check the Groupon site for the deal of the day. When you buy a Groupon you can print it out or use it online with the code listed on your Groupon.
Some of my favorite Groupons that I have purchased are: $30 for 6 movie tickets from weeklycinema.com (including Imax and 3D movies), $35 for $100 worth of photo books or calendars from Picaboo.com (the $35 can apply to shipping, tax, and CAN be combined with other discount codes) and $25 for $50 at GAP (can be used on sale and clearance merchandise).
I gotta say that the Picaboo deal was pretty sweet (and seems to be ongoing at various cities). I just used a coupon code for a FREE large custom photo book (reg $40) for new customers (paid $8.99 shipping). Combine that with the Groupon and you have a large custom photo book SHIPPED, only $35 out of pocket, and $91.01 left to spend at Picaboo.com.
*To take the deal a step further, I am planning to use the rest of my Groupon to buy calendars during their buy one get one free sale (using coupon code BGFTHX). So for my $35 Groupon plus maybe $10 out of pocket I will get... one large custom photo book and 6 premium 11x14 calendars... shipped! Not bad.
OF NOTE:
1. You can buy a Groupon from a city other than your own. This is nice if you want to buy it as a gift for people out of state/city.
2. Some of the deals are national deals. This was the case for all three deals that I purchased. Which means that anyone can buy the deal and it can be redeemed online (like at Picaboo.com) or at a national chain like GAP.
3. Read the fine print at the bottom of the Groupon before you buy. It will specify whether or not you can buy multiples, when your Groupon will expire, and other important info.
4. When you refer friends to Groupon, you will earn a $10 for each person who purchases a Groupon within 72 hours of signing up!
